Monster Idea
Meat worm
Description: A 55 ft long white worm-like creature, able to swallow a 6 ft person in just a few seconds. Along his body there are whiskers-like organs that are able to capture vibrations faster, and that the creature can control to use them as shovels to cover itself in snow or to cover its victim in case there are other people around.
Before the Meat worm attacks, everyone must roll a perception check, those who failed will be surprised (see Ambusher ⬇️)
Abilities:
Ambusher: In the first round of combat, the meat worm has advantage on attack rolls against any creature it has surprised.
Snow body: if it’s snowing or the meat worm is in a snowy terrain, it gains +5 AC, +10ft speed, +5 on Wisdom rolls, it gives disadvantage on all Perception rolls made my other creatures around it.
Actions:
Swallow: spends two rounds swallowing an enemy, at the start of the second turn it finishes swallowing its prey. While swallowing a creature, it can only defend itself using its tail/body and can’t make any opportunity attacks.
Bite: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft, one target, Hit: 15 (2d12+3) piercing damage
Acid spit: +3 to hit, reach 25 ft, AoE, 10 ft radius, Hit: 9 (1d6+6) acidic damage
Tail Whip: +2 to hit, reach 10 ft (from its tail), one target, Hit 7 (1d8+3) bludgeoning damage
After being swallowed the player must do a Strength Saving Throw to exit the worm (either ripping his body or exiting trough the mouth) and take 1d6 acid damage, after 3 turns the damage becomes 2d6, after 6 the damage becomes 4d6, after 9 the damage becomes 3d12, after 12 the damage becomes 6d12, after 15 the damage becomes 12d12, after 18 the damage becomes 24d6. If the character is still alive, the worm vomits them and from now on when attacking using its Bite attack, if the player attacked is the regurgitated one, it will attack twice. If the player is unarmored, they take +Xd4 acidic damage each time. X is the same number of dices that the turn says to roll (first 1, third 2, tenth 3,…)

First in what will hopefully be many spec evo rainworld stuff! Ill talk about my Ideas in the read moar
i think the pipe grubs are probably what moon talks about in that pearl or maybe a transitionary evolution between rhem and the drain mites.
I think grappleworms fairly quickly evolved to live in underhangs. they vacuum up microbial organisms with their "grapples", and thats why sometimes they grapple onto your slugcat or lizards; it's essentially them "tasting" you. if youve ever had a slug or snail rasp on you, i think it'd kinda feel like that.
i think slugcats probably have tjose little bumps left over from their ancestors, almost like the mangle or skirt of a slug.
lantern mice's hangy? thing? is their link to grapple worms. Thatse it. and also their spots to where the extra legs used to be❤️‍🔥

Note
are amphibians like newts and frogs considered aquatic? i know crustaceans & mollusks would be
Yes they are! Generally, the more time it spends on land, the closer it will be to 5 calories than 4. The estimate was actually based on frogs and tadpoles, I had to make an educated guess.
My best source was a feeding chart from a reptile food website which sells whole small prey for consumption by snakes. It perfectly lists out the values of dozens of small animals, but no fish. So I took a note of the 4 calorie estimate, observed that an adult frog increases in calories compared to tadpoles (bucking the trend with the others on the list where younger animals are worth more caloric value) and went on to do more research
I couldn't find a source that broke down WHOLE prey caloric value like the chart, so I ended up comparing caloric value between rabbit fillets, chicken fillets, and fish fillets on human-centric nutrition websites. My hypothesis was mostly consistent, even with more species added. Fish (perch, flounder, pike) < Wild Mammal (rabbit, squirrel) < Poultry (chicken, turkey, quail). There was overlap between "classes", certain fish getting over the 100 hump, but generally there was a trend I boiled down into 4/5/6
This is consistent with how a lot of fish meat is actually water. In fact, cats quench a lot of their thirst from the food they eat. I also learned some very interesting stuff about the fat distribution in fish which is going to blow a bit of a hole in some of my Clan culture stuff lmaoooo, but I'll furiously swim across that obliterated bridge when I get there
But funfact! Fish oil is rendered fish fats and it is the form that unsaturated fat takes, whereas lard is what saturated fats become. I need to do more research into this topic to understand what kind of difference it would make in a wild cat's diet.
There was one big bucked trend though: salmonid meat was WAAAAY higher in fat and calories. Like, absurdly high. Like 150 cal trout fillet vs 110 cal of rabbit fillet vs 88 cal of perch fillet.
I do not know why that is. My guess is that maybe it's because they were taking the number from farmed salmonids? Maybe it's because they're particularly fatty fish? Perhaps this is just the raw power of salmon slammin'.
Anyway, at one point I was trying to estimate exact caloric value per popular prey species, but decided I didn't have the "backing" to get so exact with the numbers since I was doing estimates with the fish. I'll do the work if it comes down to it, but for now, 4/5/6 is a quick, easy guideline you can use for just about any WC project.
